In order to help crops grow, you need to support them with appropriate amount of water, sunlight, and nutrients.

Water

For a field to be productive, the amount of water needs to be in the correct range. Towns far away from water sources will need extra water from clouds. Forests can be used to help fields retain water, and mountains can be used to guide and direct humidity and clouds.

If a field is too wet, you may want to blow clouds and humidity away from it. Sunlight can accelerate evaporation, but the hot air it creates will rise, pulling in cold air and clouds to fill the space. The sun tool needs to be used with care. Remember, you can use mountains to block cloud and humidity.

Sunlight

Fields also need the appropriate amount of sunlight. Generally, fields near the equator will get enough sunlight. Near the poles, fields will need additional sunlight. You can add sunlight to fields temporarily by using the sun tool. However, be careful when using the sun tool, since too much sun is very bad for crops!

Nutrients

Fields are more productive with higher level of nutrients. Nutrient levels can be temporarily increased using the Nutrients Tool. To provide a permanent source of nutrients, however, you need to create a forest.
