Hwk Thanksgiving

Check the Schedule/Calendar for the latest info on due dates, lectures, homeworks, labs, grutoring, etc.

Turn in a pdf of answers to the following questions.

Scenario:
You arrive home or where ever you are going for Thanksgiving. You want Internet access, so you start the process of joining the local wireless network.
You are provided a wireless name and password by someone:

  1. Is the Wireless name something that would identify the property, e.g., East Dorm.
  2. Is the Wireless password something that would be hard to guess, e.g., Password.
  3. Once on you are provided an IP address, what does that IP address tell you about that network? (NAT box, # of devices, etc.)

You are curious as to the other devices on the wireless network.
  1. How would you find the other devices, i.e., what tool might you use? Do it and list the last byte of each device IP address that you find.

You are now curious as to how the Wireless and NAT box work. Assuming you can physically access that wireless box, does it contain information on setting up that wireless network.
  1. If you can, log into the wireless box and access anything that it will let you access, e.g., the NAT table, etc.

Since this is wireless, you should be able to run Wireshark and look at traffic.
  1. See what you can find out.

Finally, download a line speed tool and see if this network is getting the Internet speed that is advertised.
