The team will develop a simulation of the GPS 3 Satellite network and the GPS 3 Ground network. The focus of this effort during summer 05 will be to create the hardware and software simulation environment. This environment will consist of a large number of a machines networked in various ways. The team will be responsible for the creation and documentation of this network. In particular, creating a hardware environment that includes machines representing each satellite and each ground station component. For network operation, the team will develop a network infrastructure that provides for the simulation of space and ground network connections together with the inherent varability of these connections. Also, the team will be responsible for developing procedures and software tools that provide for the management of this network. In particular: updating the software in each machine; changing the performance of various network parameters; and non-intrusive management of the network. Once the simulation environment is considered functional, the team will investigate the creation of operational scripts for each of the simulated nodes, e.g., each satellite will run through a 24 sequence of operations including connectivity to other satellites and to specific ground stations. This activity will begin 16 May and continue for 10 weeks, 25 July.
