Administrator's Manual for CHIMMP
based on the default language
-
All the commands that work for normal users also work for you.
However, commands which subtract points from general
users do not subtract points from you. This is intended to give you the ability
to clean up things that stupid users do, not let you play your obnoxious
music all the time. (That's just a side benefit!) The rest of this manual
page only lists commands that are specific to administrators.
-
Call Admin
call administrator sends messages to you. When someone
else gives the command call admin, and you're online, you get the message.
At that point, you get to figure out what to do about it.
-
Add User
To add a user, send CHIMMP the message add user "username@server"
. If they are connecting via aim, the server will be aim.
If they connect using jabber, it will be the name of the server they connect
with.
-
Remove User
To remove a user, send the message remove user "username@server"
(same username and server as was used for adding a user). However, this
should not be used when suspend user is more appropriate.
-
Suspend/Reinstate User
When someone is being obnoxious, you can suspend them. They will not
be able to talk to CHIMMP until they're reinstated, but they and all their
playlists and preferences will still be in the playlist so they can quickly
be reinstated. The commands for these actions are suspend user "username@screenname"
and reinstate user "username@screenname"
-
Lock/Unlock Volume
To keep the music at appropriate levels, you can lock and unlock the volume.
Lock basically disables the turn volume up/down.commands for
regular users. Unlock allows users to modify the volume within the range
of allowable volumes. These commands are in the format lock volume
and unlock volume.
-
Making Users into Admins
An administrator may make a regular user an adminstrator with the command
promote user "username@server" or turn an administrator
back into a regular user with the command demote user "username@server"
-
Playing Music
No matter how many songs the users submit to the global playlist or how
high they turn up the volume, no music will be played until an admin gives
CHIMMP the command start playback. This has the corresponding
stop command stop playback.
-
Approving Songs
Users cannot play songs until they have been approved by an administrator.
To see a list of unapproved songs, send the command list unapproved
songs
This provides a list which behaves like other lists in CHIMMP. You can
reference the songs by number. Then to approve a song, send the command
approve n.
-
Shut Down
CHIMMP cannot be started over an instant messenger, but it can be shut down
remotely. The command is shut down CHIMMP. It is important
to stop playback before shutting down CHIMMP.
