12/16/2004
Finalized car models and fitted models with appropriate tires and textures.
Textures and polygon crunched two of our levels.
Probably will end up with two complete levels.
Third level can just be a simple test course if needed.
I <3 3ds Max! Milkshape sucks.
3ds Max has made texturing A LOT easier and models are easy to decimate.
UVW texture mapping is also LESS painful in 3ds Max
12/13/2004
Found tons of more car models for our game.
Discovered Milkshape screws with textures, dled a copy of 3DS max, now to some real 3D modelling.
Implement Sky class and atmosphere.
Goals:
Finish up Daytona texturing and resizing.
Create one more level
12/4/2004
Finished decimating and texturing four cars that load and look really nice in our game: Showdown (my fav!), Sizuki, Mirage, and Dodge
Worked on the Design Review presentation
Goals:
Finish 2 more complete levels
Implement the atmosphere
12/4/2004
Succeeded in reducing our 1 million+ polygon terrain down to ~2-3 thousand polygons! - SCORE!!!
Took a 5 hour 3d animation tutorial for game aesthetics - intro scene, cut scenes, whatever
11/30/2004
Working on new .3ds model loader with James - this is our 4th try at a working model loader!
Created a "city" level in Vue Pro for concept.
Was given creative freedom in level design and model design.
Modeled a course for the city level.
Goals for next week:
Have an entire level with all objects able to be displayed in game.
Come up with 2-3 more levels for the game.
11/17/2004
Scrapped importing .ms3d files
Milkshape is a pain in the butt, newer 3d programs offer so much more and are easier to use.
Worked on a 3D Studio Max model importer
.3ds files are generally smaller in size and easier to manage.
Had some problems with textures
Goals for next week:
Gather several appropriate models for game.
try and ensure "real life" sizing
11/10/2004
Found several nice car models that will be great for our game.
Models are highly detailed though, will need to find a way to reduce the number of polygons in each model.
Spent a long time with James trying to figure out why Visual Studio wouldn't compile the
NeHe
?
code for .ms3d model importation.
Finally got it to work by changing a few lines of code around.
Working on class that will handle all the model imports and texturing.
11/10/2004
Finished basic car class with car properties
Created Wiki and CVS for final project
Worked on diagrams for concept presentation
Goals for week 2:
find car models
be able to display simple model for testing purposes
11/07/2004
Goals for week 1:
Create car class, ensure following properties:
velocity vectors, wheel turning (angle), car type,
dashboard window?
Goals for week 2:
track creation (testy stuff)
Buildings, lamp posts, trees, etc.
