The CS Labs in Beckman 102 and 105 house a large number of Macs.
If you have a CS account (e.g. for turing), you can login to these
machines with that account. If you don't have an account but would
like to use these labs, please visit Tim Buccheim in Beckman 101 to
obtain an account request form.
To use LaTeX on the CS lab Macs do the following:
- Login on any Mac.
- Double-click on the hard drive icon in upper right of the
screen.
- In the window that just opened, double-click on the "Network"
icon in the upper-left of that window.
- You'll now see a long list of directories (folders). The first
one is the "Applications" folder. Double-click on this. (Notice
that there is also an "Applications" icon in the far left of the
window. That's NOT what you want.)
- Now double-click on the "Text" folder.
- Now double-click on the "TexShop" icon.
- TexShop will provide a window in which you can edit your text.
You can save your file using the "File" menu and you can typeset it
by clicking the "Typeset" button.
- If there is an error during typesetting, the error will be
displayed in a separate window.
- If your document was typeset successfully, you will see it in a
separate window as well. You can print that document to the CS
printers by selecting "Print" from the "File" menu.
- Saving the TexShop text file that you editted is all that is
necessary to use it again later. The typeset version is automatically saved each time you typeset your document.
