A theoretical game, based on Death Chess (in which pieces are alcoholic beverages that you have to drink when you take them). As its name suggests, it is based on
ChesSers, rather than chess; because there seems to be a negative correlation between being a
ChessersPlayer and consuming alcohol, this aspect of Death Chess has generally been removed.
The question of promoted pawns hasn't really been discussed, though temorarily upgrading the piece is certainly the more fun variant.
The following variations on Death Chessers have been discussed -- place your name under any variant you would be willing to play (and possibly contribute to the cost of):
- Standard Death Chessers. Just reduce the alcohol content such that the queen is no more than two drinks and its theoretically workable (with, of course, refillings). Checkers would be either pawns or half pawns in alcohol value. As of now, only three players are known to exist who would play.
- TrivialChessers?. When you take a piece, you must answer a random question off a Trivial Pursuit card on your own time. If you get it wrong, you get asked another question, and so on, until you get it right. There has also been some discussion of using geometry/algebra problems instead of Trivial Pursuit cards, if we can find a source of them. Flash cards could be used in a pinch. - JalapenoChessers?. Chess pieces are all jalapenos (in different-sized glasses so you can tell them apart); checkers are shots of water. Alternatively, chess pieces could be various hot sauces. Personally, this is the variant I find most appealing. --MicahSmukler ... Water? Should be milk (unless vegans are playing) since it works better than water for curing burning mouths. -- TimBuchheim ... Actually, I think the fact that water can increase the burning might be the reasoning behind water over milk. -- DanCicio. [JoshMiddendorf AlexBobbs MicahSmukler]
- Has been played, at the ChessersParty?. After an hour, we switched to clocks, and Micah (and team?) lost on time, as he had too many pieces to consume.
