Another work of historical fiction, vividly illustrated by the ending credits: it was mostly the Brits who captured and deciphered Enigma, not the Americans. The acting was fairly decent, but the characters were too stereotypical; I placed bets on who was going to end up surviving, and was mostly correct. Historicity and probability were both stretched in the interest of drama, but it managed to retain the enivornment of WWII submarine well enough despite missing those minor and major details. This movie stands intermediate between the old John Wayne WWII flicks and more realistic (and better) war movies: cheap emotional manipulation with a bit of the horror and dirt of real war.
