"Attack of [[the]] suicide pancakes!!" --? Q: How did East come to have wiki? I just ran into [http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WikiWikiWeb This] and I'm curious as to the history as people here know it. One day during the 1999-2000 school year (I think it might have been at a dorm meeting), TheBrubeck announced to [[the]] lounge that there was this cool thing called Funwiki at some now long-defunct address. And people should go there and create stuff. He later informed us that we were all crack-monkeys, having created 6 megs of data in some absurdly short period of time. If someone else has a better memory of this, please correct me. I didn't pay too much attention to it originally, so my memory is likely faulty. -- EdMiller ::Thank you so much for telling me. --Katie What type of wiki are we using here? Other Random Links: * [http://www.paradigmpuzzles.com/ Quantum TicTacToe] ---- Other Variants of Chess (where should this be added?): * SwarmChess (Courtesy of person at brunch who's name I believe is Mike) ** Every turn you can move every piece once if you want to, but you can only make one capture. (Mike originaly suggested three moves per turn and the idea morphed in conversation) * BattleshipChess (Courtesy of various peoples at brunch last December 2004)(Apparently a varient already invented earlier and independantly as mentioned below.) ** You can only see your own pieces. You never see your opponents pieces. Third parties tell you what moves are illegal. (Possibly might make this that they only tell you if a move is illegal after you've tried it. This way you won't just ask them legal and illegal moves until you figure out the board.) --The above documented by KatieLewis who was at brunch December 2004 * BattleshipChess sounds very much like [http://www.chessvariants.com/incinf.dir/kriegspiel.html Kriegspiel]. ** Neat. Thank you. -- KL ---- Questions with which to begin interesting conversations. (Or rather questions which catch my fancy): * How do you deal with death? * Do you think people can change? * Is there ever a case where it could be a good thing to be (permenantly?) disconnected from reality? To be disjoint between what you believe and the reality you act upon? * Where do you see our technology/culture/society in n years? How prevelant will technology x be? * Why do Japan and other places have more of a consumer market in up and coming technologies than the US? (So I understand) (Also, consider such questions as cell phone towers arising where there never were any ground lines to begin with in third world countries. How much other such factors do we see? Cultural effects in different places?) * What do you think of religion? * What plan would you recommend we follow in regard to our relationship with space? * Politics? * What do you want to do with the rest of your life? * How minimalistic could government be while still running well in your opinion? * If you had a choice between hell or oblivian which would you choose? What if the choice of hell meant that heaven also existed although you would not go to it? * Tell me about your relatives. ---- Something, stolen/quoted from Schmack, that ought to have it's own wiki page, but having a wiki page requires a wikipage name and therefore it is currently stuck here so as not to be forgotten. (Other comments which may have been made have unfortunately been deleted in a fit of account cleaning)(I.e. a page of evil mischief that could be consequences): >Subject: Re: Bored? The names of the seven monkeys are: Mildred, Joe, Margret, San, Orangatang, Meebles, and Mipps other monkey names: Lemonade, Chocolate, Herb, Little, Sassafrass, Slipperfoot, and Tinker Other other monkee names: Davey, Mickey, Mike, Peter ---- Things I will be passing on when I (KatieLewis) graduate (just begun): If there's anything you'd like to claim of things I'm not giving away until I graduate (such as the pencil sharpener), please put your name behind the item in the below lists (or come talk to me) so then I don't have to figure out what to do with things. For Sale Immediately: $5 for the pair: 2 tall posts the hight of a second floor East cealing. Excellent for constructing screens in front of bunkbeds to block light while your roommate works. I've put a box in one of the East storages that is CLEARLY marked 'Free' and I'll put things in it as I'm done with them. For Free: * Pencil Sharpener (from Fess) * Bookend * A set of packets from Steinberg's Global Environmental Politics which is taught in the fall. * Possibly other packets from classes as I run across them. * Wood (assorted. For construction purposes) * Clothes - a couple of shirts I got from cousins and can't bring myself to wear (am not so good at showing my midrift), another shirt, a pj shirt. * An empty journal or two I got from Fess * Organizer (desk drawer organizer excellent for Atwood type drawers) * Squishy Duck * A small asperagus fern named Mozart. (It wasn't supposed to have a name. I blame AndrewWetzel for asking me if it has a name so that my mind immediately named it.)Please take care of it. ** I would take very good care of this plant, if he'd like to live with me. --MacKenzieStuart ***Thank you! Mozart goes to you when I graduate. --KL For Sale Immediately: * Tall posts (as talked about above) * 10 large screws and associated bolts and washers (roughly the size of the screws and bolts used to construct East Beds but probably not the same size). I believe these cost me at least $10 and I'd be willing to sell them for $5. For Sale Maybe: * My bike - Will depend on where I go and what sort of a price I can get for it here. I bought it new when I was a frosh. It's a really nice mountain bike, has been well used and loved these 4 years. If anyone has any suggestions as to how one should go about selling a bike here or such, please tell me. * Phone - I currently have two phones. One works like a dream but doesn't have an answering machine. The other has an excellent answering machine but I find it a little hard to hear some people over the phone proper. I also have a plug that you can plug two phones into the same socket. I probably will be selling all three of these things as a set. But it will depend on where I end up after college and whether I want to be lazy and take them with me. * Stapler and Staples * Extension cords * power cord with box that you can plug a lot of things into (words are escaping me at the moment) * Bike grease For Free Maybe: * ExtraPaper * Water boiler - free (has a crack in the side but still works well) * Nails (if I ever find them again) - Can I give these to the dorm Tool Keeper? Who is dorm Tool Keeper at the moment? * Writing Implements * Empty Binders * Keyboard that needs to be fixed * Any extra food I may have Other Things: * Books: With the exception of books I bought for gifts and a few books that I really like or want to keep, any books I can't fit in my luggage will be sold or given away as appropriate. (Books I got for free will be given away for free. There are a small number of textbooks I'm selling or will end up selling. I am currently selling a couple of textbooks to Steinberg's Global Environmental Politics class. Will post these things on BookSale later.) ---- Archives: TrickOrCheese sign-up page on wiki for Halloween 2002: (because I like things to be remembered especially if they are silly) LauraKanofsky and ArielBarton, East 156: aged Vermont white cheddar cheese Big Matt and Eric, East 105: Pepper jack AlexBobbs, East 121: Muenster (carrying on the ChessersSuite tradition) JoshMiddendorf and MaryPeter, South 310/312 aka HotTub? or LounGe? : Salami (yeah, I know, it's not cheese).
