[Home]ChessersTournament

An obviously ridiculous idea, but one which EvilSouthie has decided to put forth a challenge those among the Mudders who would brave the rigors of a ChesSers tournament and fight among themselves to discover who would be ChesSers champion.

Or maybe just something dreamed up late at night. Who knows.

Current proposed rules for the ChessersTournament:

1. 10 minute clocks for all players.

2. No outside kibitzing allowed, except for the useful "that's illegal" kibitz. Kibitzing about rules is perfectly allowed, kibitzing about good moves isn't. Kibitizing by any of the four players in the game to any of the other three is legal, and encouraged for people who have forced moves or forgot to hit their clocks.

3. Teams will be rotated from round to round (rounds? We have rounds?), and players will end up playing on both sides, and both colors. So relative strengths of players may vary from round to round.

4. The tournament likely won't have any set start or finish. EvilSouthie is probably going to figure out a way to rotate players so that it approximates fairness (otherwise we may end up playing 4*10! games, which would take a while), and then put the games that should be played eventually up here. To make the game official, make sure everybody's playing the right color, make sure everybody knows it's for the tournament, then play. Post the result below (not avaliable yet).

Please note that this is just for fun's sake, as having the title of "Best ChesSers player ever" is not very valid outside of the people playing, and probably dubious even within the group.

Anyway. If you're interested in playing in the First Ever ChessersTournament, please place your name below. BrianRoney (and others) added a few people to the list with asterisks to mean that they think they would play but haven't put their names up yet. Feel free to remove your name or the asterisk next to your name if you are that person.

Any ideas on when I should cut off entry into the tournament? I suppose I could have people join in in the middle and just get them to play a bunch of catch up games, but that might screw up the game schedule.

EvilSouthie is currently considering the format of listing games to be played as (White chess, black checkers, black chess, white (red) checkers). So a listing of (1,2,3,4) would have BrianRoney as white on chess, partnered with MicahSmukler playing black checkers, against JoshMiddendorf on chess and AlexBobbs on checkers.

Also considered is a record system (since just one game of chessers, although technically tournament legal, could be made better just by adding more games... so I'll likely just use the average of the scores to determine rankings) next to each entry of (1,2,3,4). A sample entry would be... (1,2,3,4) - (2,0,1,0) which would be interpreted as BrianRoney winning two games, and JoshMiddendorf winning one (the numbers on the right is the amount of wins scored by the corresponding person on the left). I don't expect having individual wins will be important, as the wins will count for the team itself, but it'll be interesting to watch for trends.

Note- the following is just EvilSouthie doing scratch work to figure out what the best way to organize games might be. If the method of listing games is confusing, please write a note saying so.

For that matter, feel free to keep a record here of these games if you can remember it. Make sure everybody knows you plan to before you start the clocks, though.

(1, 2, 3, 4) - (0, 0, 0, 0)

(2, 3, 4, 5) - (0, 0, 0, 0)

(3, 4, 5, 6) - (0, 0, 0, 0)

(4, 5, 6, 7) - (0, 0, 0, 0)

(5, 6, 7, 8) - (0, 0, 0, 0)

(6, 7, 8, 1) - (0, 0, 0, 0)

(7, 8, 1, 2) - (0, 0, 0, 0)

(8, 1, 2, 3) - (0, 0, 0, 0)
