Chapter Three: About the author, about the library
The purpose of the library
This document has two purposes, and that is to help bring character
depth and immersion to Norrath and provide a place for Warriors
everywhere to discuss their trade. Send replies via courier to
Branin Black'Lion.

About the author
I was born in Halas and led an uneventful childhood. Like many of my
people, I practiced the arts of combat as a way of protecting our city
from the ice goblins and gnolls. Others, including my brother Judorin,
followed the path of the Shaman, the wise figure to guide our city's
progress. The only truly significant events in my life were my finding
of my pet furry winter snow serpent, the death of my beloved to
sickness, and the finding of my long lost brother.
When my beloved died, I grew bitter about the world around me. Taking
my pet with me, I left Halas and Ever Frost desperate to escape
unhappy and happy memories alike. I sought to travel as a form of
escape from my past, and to perhaps compensate in experience what I
had lost in love. I read feverishly, a newly found friend by the name
of Estralius teaching me how to read, as well as speak Feir'Dal. I
began a long crusade to educate myself in all manner of the arts,
philosophy, music, and trade. The learning served as a shield to
protect me from my grief. I tried to better myself in ways I never
would have dreamed of had my beloved lived.
Now, I seek to learn more about the world around me, and perhaps bring
it back into balance. If ye wish to see a painting of my pet, ye can
look here for a simple
portrait, and there
for a painting of it eating dinner. His name is Sammy.
The late author Fritz Leiber (1910-1992) was the
fore-father for modern day fantasy, writing the first story of
Lankhmar (city of 10,000 smokes) in about 1940. He continued to write
until 1990 when he collapsed and eventually died of exhaustion in
1992. His collaboration with Harry Fischer created the fantasy genre
we know today, inspiring Tolkien and many others after him. Much as
Howard Phillips Lovecraft was considered to be the father of
the modern day genre of horror, Fritz was THE creator of the
fantasy genre. Even his critics often point at how his stories never
have the same feel, each one having a different mix of satire, farce,
dark humor, and high adventure. However, the one component all his
stories had in common, was the human feelings of the characters
involved, and his creations took on a life of their own.
Aon Cari is a very high quality celtic artwork site that sells
original Celtic paintings, as well as other crafts. Their site
includes free clip art (such as seperators, borders, and stylized
animals and buttons), as well as a very beautiful Celtic font. Since
the font is stored in such an annoying Mac format, ye can download the
true type and
postscript versions as .ZIP
files here.
Celtic Backdrops is run by Bradley W. Schenck. His art is also
incredibly beautiful, and he has a large collection of pannels, border
designs, and background art for free use. In additon to the graphics,
his site also has a detailed history of Celtic art and its origins. He
also has a variety of other artwork to his credit. Most of the
ornamentations on this page have come from his artwork.
Richard Kane Ferguson is responsible for a
great deal of fantasy artwork in a variety of locations. One of his
more memorable contributions was the artwork for various parts of the
collectible trading card game, Magic: The Gathering. His art is among
the best within the collection. The art he did (example displayed to
the right) is highly sought after by collectors from either the game
or galleries.
The Lost
Order of Akalabeth: EverQuest faction has a large membership
in EverQuest, and is the largest organized guild that I have found
with members you can trust to value certain common virtues. They have
a great deal of resources (art, stories, etc.), as well as news.
The Ranger's
Glade is run by Sunmoon and is the largest ranger run
printing press that I have ever seen. It too contains a wealth of
resources, mainly discussion between rangers holding shop, but its
owner most certainly holds the dream dear. Ye can find a variety of
other wonderful information such as tales told and such within.
Wyndon's
Art Gallery is all hand drawn by Wyndon himself, and contains
a great deal of fine quality pencil drawings. Stop by and marvel and
perfect physiques that Wyndon is so good at presenting. Gwenneth,
Valdo's wife has contacted me! The gallery has been found again!
The Order of
Antonica has a nicely done site that contains some interesting
character biographies and some interesting journal entries. There are
quite a few, and they are all very well done. However, I do detect a
great leaning towards Tunare.
Hammer &
Tongs, Ivian's Diary is run by Ivian, a very enthusiastic
Shaman of Halas. Ye can read her thoughts and follow her travels
throughout Norrath if ye are interested in the doings and interests of
others.
Rulnak runs his own diary as well that
keeps track of the various travels he and his companions have.
Kesrin, Shalara, Atar, Estralius, Judorin, Cali, Hela, and
many others whom I have forgotten for taking the time to talk to a
barbarian about philosophy.
