CS162 - Jules Verne
Due - 8 November 01, 11:59
Directions
Jules Verne was one of the foremost Science Fiction writers of
his day.
What is of interest for this course,
is how his visions were or were not accepted
by his society.
-
Of course some of his books were way out there, e.g., Time Machine,
but did people see any difference between Time Machine and
20,000 Leagues?
-
In general, how did his readers
accept his view of the future,
particularly with various capabilities
that we have come to accept.
-
More than the issue of science, what were the societal responses to
his views?
Did people think such inventions might damage society? or
Did people just not think about any repercussions if such
technology were real.
Write 3 to 5 pages looking at reaction to Jules Vernes views of
the future. Try to focus on only one of his books.
Make sure to go the library looking for critiques
from the first publication of his books.
OR
Look at some other 'old' Science Fiction writer and review
the responses to his/her writings.
Document
Do the document
using a decent environment,
e.g., Frame, LAtex, troff, etc.
and
at least spell check the document.
Turn in
hardcopy, 2 copies.
