Written Assignment 1

Due Wed. 27 September 2006

1. Compose a two-chorus solo chorus solo for “Nows the Time”, observing the following requirements:

Be able to play the solo on your instrument.

Preferably use Impro-Visor. If you can’t then what you turn in must still be legible and on clean music manuscript paper (not plain paper, graph paper, etc.)
Use 4 bars per line, with chord symbols for your instrument.

Submit your solo by emailing the Impro-Visor .ls file to keller at cs dot hmc dot edu at least one hour before class, unless you don’t use Impro-Visor, in which case turn it in at class.

Email me if you need help using the tool, on any aspects of soloing, or anything pertinent to the class. I also have office hours MW 3-4, Tu 4-5:30, or other times when I’m around, which is most of the time.

Included in the latter are bare leadsheets for the different instrument pitches. (You have to set the playback transpose manually, to –2 for Bb and +3 for Eb instruments.

Also are included are a solo that I wrote, and a transcription of Clifford Brown’s solo on the music tracks announced in an email to the class earlier today.
