The CS 134 final exam was originally planned to be a take-home exam that would include Tuesday, December 10 through Thursday, December 12 (the official final exam time slot for this class), with some chance that I might be able to release it early.
“Take home” means that you can take it back to your dorm room or complete it in some other on-campus location. You cannot go home for the holidays and take your exam with you.
However, given the unusual nature of this semester, I am making the final exam optional. The plan is as follows: Based on a holistic assessment of your performance in the class, I will make a grade offer to you. If you accept the offer, you will receive that grade in the class. If you decline the offer, you can take the final exam as planned and your grade will be calculated according to the formula in the syllabus.
The grade offer will expect successful completion of all outstanding work in the class, including completing on-line lessons. If you accept the offer but then do not uphold your end of the bargain, you will receive a lower grade based on a holistic reassessment of my choosing.
What do you think?
With this process in mind, consider your performance in the class and try to take my perspective. What grade offer do you think I am most likely to make, and the reasons why? (Note: Your answer shouldn't just be what grade you would like to receive or what grade you think you deserve.)
Any other thoughts or comments?
