kumquat (kum'-kwaht) n.

A shrub of tree of the genus Fortunella and family Rutaceae; also, the small yellowish-orange fruits produced by this plant. The kumquat is most likely native to China, and has been rumored to have very few social skills. To date, BEN ELGIN is the only person I have ever met who wrote a college admissions essay on the subject of this fruit.
