* Couldn't this simply be determined experimentally? As in, get a bunch of people to try a bunch of configurations, and see what each gets?

Unlike CalTech?'s Athenaeum (an exclusive club for profs), the Ath on CMC is open to all students. Give them your meal card number (http://www.mckenna.edu/mmca) a couple of days in advance, and you get a tasty dinner with some sort of after-dinner speaker.

The most important thing to know about the Ath is the Ath Code. The Ath Code is a function which maps from the orientation of your coffee cup and saucer relative to the table and each other to the after-dinner hot beverage you will recieve.
