DON'T APPLY UNTIL JANUARY 19th, 2017!

The form below is last year's application. It's here for reference (since the new one will be very similar).

This year's application will go live on January 19th. Apply between then and February 18th, 2017. Thank you!

Before Completing this Form

Before you start to complete this form, read it over to make sure you can answer the questions it asks -- there's no way to save a half-completed application (other than leaving this window open in your browser!) Also, before completing this form make sure you have read all the steps necessary for applying.

The 2016 deadline for REU applications is Saturday, Feb. 13th (anytime).

Note: Students from Harvey Mudd College should not use this form. It is only for external REU applicants. HMC students should use our HMC-internal research form.

Application Form

The fields in bold are required. Other fields are optional. In particular, the “Notes/Comments” field allows you to provide atypical information that will not easily fit into the preset fields of the form. If there is an apparent problem with one of your entries, it will turn red after you enter it, otherwise data you enter will turn green.

Fundamentals

The NSF requires that participants in our REU program are US residents who are enrolled in an undergraduate program at the time of the REU. Thus, graduating seniors cannot participate.

Your Academic Preparation

We'd like you to tell us about your academic preparation two ways. First, we need a copy of your (unofficial) transcript.

In addition, please list your CS or other courses that are relevant to the REU projects you are interested in - this includes introductory CS courses, more advanced courses in CS or related field, and any others you'd like to share.

Access to Research Opportunities

The NSF requires that “at least half of the student participants must be recruited from academic institutions where research opportunities in STEM are limited.” Further elaboration is left up to Sites to justify. To that end, we ask that you provide your institution's context regarding research opportunities in STEM - to what extent does your institution provide research opportunities for undergraduates?

Demographics

This section is optional. Completing it provides us with useful infomation about the makeup of our applicant pool. (The National Science Foundation requires that we report demographic data - to the extent that we have it - on REU program applicants. The gender, ethnic, and racial choices here are defined by the NSF: we welcome other identities and elaboration in the textbox)
