[Home]JustSubtleEnough

A variant offshoot of zen, EastieNature, and anti-solipsism (see [1]). The art of NotBeing, not in the sense of really not being, but just enough so that the solipsistic tendencies of others tend to obscure the fact that you really DO exist and have an odd tendency to get your way.

!!Examples from the Popular Media Kevin Spacey in "The Usual Suspects". John Cusack in "Grosse Pointe Blank". Haley Joel Osment in "The Sixth Sense". The Somebody Else's Problem field from HHGttG?. Many thanks to whoever provided this example! :-)

!!Anti-Example from the East Coast For any visitors to BostonMass, it is worth noting that ALL drivers in the Boston area practice an inverted form of the principles of JustSubtleEnough.

Essentially, imagine yourself and your vehicle erased from the traffic scene. Now visualize all other drivers taking the correct and rational actions prompted by such a situation. Now, at the last second, POP yourself back into existence, allowing the other drivers to take last-ditch emergency measures to avoid a major accident. (Or, as occurs much more frequently, take the last-ditch maneuver yourself.)
